Just a 45-minute drive outside of Sydney you can find Featherdale Wildlife Park.
First opened in 1972, the park is home to over 1,700 native Australian animals, making it Australia’s largest native animal collection. Here you will see koala, kangaroo, emu, crocodile, and Tasmanian devil among many more!
Is there anything cuter than a koala? Their fluffy ears and soft grey fur have made them icons of Australia. Head into the Koala Sanctuary to visit Featherdale’s collection of Aussie cuties. Here keepers will tell you all about these special animals, and you can even get up close and personal for a pat and photo! What better way to remember your trip than to have a picture to share with your friends and family back home.
Featherdale is home to 12 types of kangaroo, 12! From the large eastern grey kangaroo to the much smaller potoroo you can meet some of the unique animals Australia homes. If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, the park is also home to the world’s happiest animal—quokkas! Walk through the open range kangaroo paddock with special kangaroo food and feed some snacks to the locals. You might even be lucky enough to see a joey poking out of its mother’s pouch.
Have you ever wondered where the world’s largest collection of Australian birds is? Maybe not, but you’ll find it here at Featherdale! From emu to little penguin and birds of every size in-between, you’ll be blown away by the variety here.
Some of Australia’s most notorious animals live in the Reptilian Pavilion. Here you will find snakes, pythons, monitors, and spiders among others. Feast your eyes on the Inland Taipan exhibit and learn all about the subtle methods of the world’s most venomous snake. Those brave enough can book onto a Reptilian encounter where they can meet the park’s reptilian residents.
Featherdale Wildlife Park is one of Australia’s leading wildlife conservation parks. You will learn all about the plight of some of Australia’s most iconic animals and the work the park is undertaking to protect them. Captive breeding programs are essential in both providing scientific knowledge on animals and building insurance populations for those that are endangered. Featherdale works to captively breed kangaroo, koala and the lesser-known quoll, a small marsupial similar to the Tasmanian devil. The park’s efforts have been so successful that they now operate in a management role nationally to assist in the breeding of quolls.
No matter if you’re interested in animal conservation, want that perfect koala photo or are just keen to see some super cute Aussie animals, Featherdale Wildlife Park has something for you. Open every day of the year the park is sure to be a highlight of your trip!
