Things to do in Fleurieu Peninsula

Less than an hour’s drive from Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula is South Australia’s playground. Situated along the coast, the Fleurieu Peninsula is home to beautiful beaches, gorgeous wine regions, and is the gateway into the Coorong; home to South Australia’s famous saltwater lakes. The Fleurieu Peninsula can be divided into three distinct regions; Vineyards and Hills, Southern Fleurieu, Mid Coast and Fleurieu West.

  • Vineyards and Hills

Sprawling green vines and rolling hills make this landscape look stunning no matter what time of the year you choose to visit. Within the area, there are four distinct wine regions -Langhorne Creek, Southern Fleurieu, McLaren Vale and Currency Creek- each boasting a variety of world-class wines.

Langhorne Creek is home to the oldest cabernet sauvignon vines in the world and families here have been winemaking for over five generations. Peppered amongst the ancient vines are large gum trees, giving the region a distinctly Australian flair. Just four wineries were here ten years ago, but the region has blossomed to home eighteen, with eight cellar doors.

For the drinker who wants something more modern, Victor Harbour, offers craft beer, locally distilled gin and boutique wines. Head to the ‘distillery door’ for a gin tasting or sit down for a beer paddle to try a range of brews.

For any lover of brews, the Vineyards and Hills are sure to provide a day of delicious drinks!

  • Southern Fleurieu

Boasting beautiful beaches and awesome water fun, Southern Fleurieu offers you a natural playground of relaxation or fun.

You’ve heard of swimming with sharks and dolphins but what about swimming with the tuna? Head to Oceanic Victor, a floating sea aquarium where you can swim with bluefin tuna and cuddle Port Jackson sharks. If you’re keen to get in the water but would prefer to do so without the marine friends, book in for a surfing lesson! Smaller waves make the ideal conditions for learners to get up on a board for the first time.

For those wanting to stay dry, there are many lovely art galleries and studios in Southern Fleurieu, featuring incredible work from local artists. For something different, head to River Dolls and see the largest private collection of dolls and toys on display in South Australia.

  • Mid Coast and Fleurieu West

The natural adventures available here are unparalleled anywhere else in the region. With plenty of parks, walks and swimming activities available, it’s the perfect place for an adventurous getaway.

Jump into the water to follow Adelaide’s underwater heritage trail. Explore the famous shipwrecks just off the coast, and book in for a guided scuba dive to get closer to the remains. For an exhilarating adventure, head to Adelaide Biplanes and take a joy flight in one of their open-cockpit biplanes or ramp up the adrenaline in an aerobic flight!

Go for a scenic kayak at Second Valley Beach, one of South Australia’s most Instagrammed spots! It’s perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. Explore reefs near to the beach on free guided tours or grab your fishing rod and see if you can catch yourself some dinner.
